Coaching services
I work with professionals navigating advancement, leadership, career transitions, and other decisions that deserve careful thought.
My coaching is structured, collaborative, and grounded in the client's goals and context. I also offer targeted consulting when the need is more specific and calls for direct expertise—for example, preparing for promotion or reviewing professional materials.
The work falls into two primary coaching pathways, with focused consulting available for more defined needs.
Career and Leadership Coaching
Who it's for
Professionals navigating a new opportunity, greater responsibility, leadership transitions, competing priorities, career change, or an important decision about what comes next.
What to expect
Coaching creates a structured space to examine the questions in front of you more carefully. Depending on what you bring, our work may focus on priorities, values, organizational dynamics, leadership approach, competing possibilities, or the tradeoffs surrounding a particular decision.
My role is to ask questions, surface assumptions, and help you explore what matters most while keeping your judgment and choices at the center of the work.
Our work may help you
- Clarify what you want from a new role or opportunity
- Think through competing priorities and tradeoffs
- Examine how you want to approach greater responsibility or leadership
- Make more deliberate decisions about career direction
- Better understand what matters to you as your work and responsibilities evolve
Academic Coaching
Who it's for
Faculty, researchers, and academic leaders navigating promotion, tenure, scholarly direction, leadership opportunities, institutional change, or decisions about staying in, moving within, or leaving academia.
What to expect
Academic careers bring a particular mix of formal milestones, institutional expectations, competing demands, and choices about where to invest your time and energy.
Because I've spent my career in academic medicine, as a professor, researcher, editor, mentor, leader, and member and chair of promotion, tenure, hiring, and admissions committees, clients do not have to spend our time explaining how these environments work.
That experience provides context for the coaching, but it does not determine the answer. Our work remains centered on your goals, priorities, judgment, and the academic career you want to build.
Our work may help you
- Think more deliberately about promotion, tenure, or advancement
- Clarify scholarly priorities and longer-term academic direction
- Consider whether and how leadership fits into your career
- Navigate competing expectations across scholarship, teaching, service, and leadership
- Examine transitions within academia or beyond it
- Prepare for important career conversations and decisions
How Packages Work
Coaching is offered in packages of four, six, or ten 50-minute virtual sessions.
We determine the scope of the engagement together based on the questions or goals you want to work on. Packages are paid in advance to support continuity and focus, and additional sessions are available to current clients.
Pricing and package options are discussed during the initial conversation and confirmed before you decide to move forward.
When coaching isn't what you need
Some questions call for reflection and exploration. Others call for direct expertise.
For defined academic or professional needs, I offer limited consulting services separate from coaching.
Targeted Consultations
A focused consultation may be appropriate when you have a specific question and are looking for informed guidance rather than an ongoing coaching engagement.
Examples may include:
- Promotion or tenure readiness
- Interpreting advancement expectations
- Thinking strategically about an academic portfolio
- Preparing for a specific career or leadership decision
- Other clearly defined academic or professional questions
Availability is limited and generally reserved for focused, time-bound needs.

- Cover letters and leadership materials
Depending on the scope, feedback may be provided verbally as part of an active engagement or through written or recorded review.
